roar

Various things have me frustrated and angry recently, so I drew my character Freddy. She’s a good outlet for these kinds of moods. Feels good to draw for myself again, too!

I Heard You Like Monster Girls

I Heard You Like Monster Girls from Shelley Low on Vimeo.

My 5 Second Day 2017 project! I basically just gave myself the day to draw what I wanted with a vague plan in mind. It was a good day.

2016 Art Summary

It’s been a hugely eventful year for me - and one in which I feel like I’ve grown and learnt a whole lot, and ultimately emerged better for it, both in my artistic and personal life. Here’s to more growth to come, in 2017!

Inktober 2016

I did Inktober this year for the first time in a couple of years and it was a lot of fun! I used post-it notes to keep my workload light and casual. I started out following the official guidelines with some characters of mine, but eventually it turned into assorted valve fanart, dragon people, and a whole week's worth of bat drawings.

POWFACTOR Animation

Some roughs from very exciting freelance work! I only did this small shot, but you don't get the offer to animate the Powerpuff Girls every day. My 13-year-old self would be proud.

Here's the full music video:

The Message

I made this looping cycle for my New Media class, inspired by the Marshall McLuhan quote "the medium is the message", and how ideas can come across rather differently depending on how they are transmitted. Though a lot of interesting things were discussed in that class, typically enough I couldn't just pick one to explore deeply, so I based this a lot more on feel and impression rather than thinking too much about it. I think it worked out. I tend to be more satisfied with what I produce when I'm not thinking too much.

LET'S GO FOR A RIDE

Hello, friends, school has been keeping me busy but I'm very excited to post something I've been slowly chipping away at for a while! Some members of the Dota 2 art community have organized a massive collaboration to illustrate a dota-themed traditional tarot card deck, with each card being represented by a hero. So far it's been a wonderful mix of professional and hobby artists and everyone is inspired and inspirational and is a joy to work with. The card art is all coming along beautifully too! You can track progress if you're interested on http://dotatarot.tumblr.com/ !

For my card, I picked (surprise) one of my favourite heroes Batrider, who's representing the Knight of Cups in this collab. I am told that it's about traversing difficult terrain, which of course - as my fellow Dota-players know - suits him to a T!

Since I don't do a lot of illustrations with this amount of detail, I also kept track of progress and made a process gif since I've always wanted to try doing one:

And just for fun some more casual drawings I did of him on a separate occasion - love this character!

sweet dreams

I made Kirby themed valentines this year! Enjoy!

Also, here's an alternate version of the Star Rod one. I had drawn in the little Dark Matter blobs before I remembered they weren't in the same game, but I thought they were cute enough to keep. Disclaimer here in case some individual decides to take me to task for it, though.
I also made another one of these for those who like Lalala more for some reason.
